SOMETHING FISHY….
preview by Graham Crothers (Alternative Ulster) November 2003
Saturday 27th November is a date worth looking forward to when deep house dons Fish Go Deep appear at Imprint, Basement Bar, Belfast, for the launch of their upcoming album ‘Lil’ Hand’- and its an NI exclusive date t‘boot!
Fish Go Deep are Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson. They have recently begun a new residency at Fast Eddies in quality clubbing music mecca Cork. The club night ‘Go Deep’ recently relocated after a year of madness which included pretty special names like Needs and Charles Webster to pick out just a few. Spinning since the late 80’s their residency at Ireland’s longest running and best known house club, Sweat at Sir Henry’s in Cork, spanned more than a decade and influenced a generation of Irish clubbers and deejays, not to mention that they brought over outright heavyweights in the form of Joe Clausell, Derrick Carter, Kerri Chandler and Herbert. Their production work meanwhile has been released on such labels as Brique Rogue and Chez Music.
On the night they will assisted by Tracey Kelliher on vocal duties, who appears on a number of tracks off the forthcoming album. A regular on the Irish DJ circuit, Tracey has played high profile gigs at dance music festivals down south such as Cork Jazz and Heineken Groove Weekenders. She also supported hip hop legends The Roots on their only Irish concert as well as Groove Armada back in 1999 at the Cork Opera House. If the show is even half as good as it was the last time they played Belfast then we’re in store for a stonking night.
The album is expected by the end of the year. Be on the lookout.
