After some excellent recent singles on labels such as Transport and Lowdown, Mister O returns to Undo with this very nice vocal excursion. It's all very Naked Music a la Blue Six - so fans from a couple of years back should appreciate both the original and the preferable Jask mix. It's perhaps all a bit too nice for some though, a fact which is driven home by the sickening sax laden reprise. Worth checking out nonetheless. |

Effective yet simple, this single from Japansese production outfit Force Of Nature is taken from their forthcoming self titled album "The Forces Of Nature".
Loopaddiction utilises one irresistibly catchy looped hook which twists, turns and filters in and out of the tracks shuffling beats. It also comes complete with two hot re-edits from one of the scene's most in demand remixers - Jamie 'Jimpster' Oddell. His dub mix entices you into a hynotic late night house groove, whilst the house mix is perhaps the best cut on the vinyl. This is perfect fodder for the more jazzed up dancefloors across the globe. |

Louie Vega and Jay Sinister Sealee have come together to form what can only be described as a U.S Garage super-group. With Louie Vega, half of MAW (and king of all things soulful house) and Jay Sinister Sealee from Kings of Tomorrow fame this track was destined for big things before it was even pressed. Back that up with one of the most in-demand female vocalists - Julie McKnight ('Home', 'Finally') and we are in 'Soul Heaven'.
As you would expect the production is superb, very crisp, very fresh. The beats are quite up-tempo definitely one for the feet rather than the head nodders. It Features a big bouncy B-line that certainly reminded me of 'Home' and keeps the track uplifting throughout. It's got an electro feel to it, but still retains a soulful vibe rather than a techy sound.
Diamond Life teams up Jay Sinister Sealee and Julie McKnight. A duo that has had great success with the last two collaborations. Julie McKnight's vocals are strong and fit well around the tracks musical frame. It's nice to hear a vocal track that doesn't rely on a wailing diva to make it stand out. The lyrics are good, maybe not as powerful as her earlier example on 'Finally' but certainly stay clear from cheesy. This makes the acappella on this vinyl a very useful tool even if maybe you aren't a big fan of the track itself.
This track could fit well into many different style sets, the Diamond Mix being the mix probably favoured as the more instant of the two mixes. Whilst the MAW mix is more laidback and percussive, but still full of funk.
Diamond Life is a definite floor filler and future anthem that stays clear of dodgy filtered disco samples. The wait for release has been long but now it's here, go and get it.

If you happen to be strolling down the banks of the Seine on a Sunday Morning and walk past a barge emitting the slow, fuzzy thud of a bass drum, you're likely to have discovered the Batofar. If your there at the right time of the month, you'll find 'Kwality', one of the most infamous afterparties in Paris, attracting some of the most hard-core party people of the Parisian house scene.
By about 9am, the music is reaching a peak.. Deep San Fran grooves over funky as hell basslines and electro tinged twiddles result in nothing short an electrifying atmosphere. For people who like their house music, there is no place like it. Kwality Batofar is an album representing the essence of this extraordinary party.
CD 1 is mixed by "the guest": Ralph Lawson, who became legendary in France because of an unbelievable set he did one year ago at Kwality. According to resident Dan Ghenacia "Ralph is the guest that represented the musical ethic of Kwality best". After ten years djing all over the world, Ralph is one of the most renowned house djs, and creator of the 2020 Vision label. As a producer he's remixed Blaze, Joey Negro, Felix Da Housecat, Jori Hulkkonen, Arthur Baker and Fatboy Slim. He's also a resident at legendary UK club Back To Basics.
CD 2 is mixed by "the resident": Dan Ghenacia is a fixture in Parisian nightclubbing and resident of Kwality afterparties. After his classic mix CD of San Francisco house tunes "Magic Garden presents Sun Frenchie's Co.", Dan Ghenacia reached star status in France thanks to his legendary sets at Kwality. He's now developing his skills as a producer. His new track "So Mobile" co-produced with David Duriez of Brique Rouge is buzzing among house djs and has been used by Ralph Lawson for his Kwality mix.

For one of his first official releases, Franky joins up with Dallas' L'Amour records. Although including two originals by Franky himself, the highlight of the record definitely comes from Soulstice's Andy Caldwell, who has definitely been coming up with the goods of late. A distinctive beat underlies some great retro vocoded vocal whilst the funky electro bass is sure to get the feet moving on the more discerning dancefloors. One to check out... |

Classy new compilation series compiled by Ben Mynott (a.k.a one half of Fragile State), doing exactly what it sets out to do. "11 deep'n'sexy house tracks" stirring up enough quality to appeal to both the serious music buyers and the coffee table connoisseurs. Ranging from the staple diet of tracks such as "Soulstice - Fall Into You" to the harder to find delicacies of Deeplay Music's "Physics - City Lights", the real nugget on this compilation has to be with the broken-percussive, Naked Music take on "Zero 7 - Waiting Line", which unfortunately doesn't quite make it onto the 12" sampler of the CD album. Om are certainly on track with this solid Johnny Fiasco release. Two excellent sides of west-coast house vibes, not to be overlooked. The a-side "Jazzmatic" is very much a trumpet-led affair, breaking down into a catchy solo which should get the head-nodders' feet moving on the dancefloor. Meanwhile, on the flip, the slightly deeper "Take 5" blends vocoded vocals with Om's trademark atmospherics and a simple, but binding, bassline. All in all, enough to take this 12" into the 'must-buy' category... |

Many people may have overlooked this release. If you don’t have it track it down… this s**t is hot!!!
More fine music from Helsinki, there must be something in the water.
The EP in question includes some gorgeous double bass driven house with touches of flute, trumpet and plenty of atmospherics. 4 tracks in all and everyone a killer for those who like to sit down and listen to their house with a "jazz cigar" in hand. Lets hope to see more of Rebeat soon.
A future St. Germain? |

Quality new single on Inspirit Music, tipped by the likes of Hed Kandi's Mark Doyle to be amongst the best new labels of 2002.
Although firmly sitting in the now-cliched Naked Music category of deep house, Soul Sista lays her distinctive South African tinged vocals over this beautiful rhodse-laden excursion.
If you find the vocals a little too sickly sweet for your tastes head straight to the dub mix which takes the track into deeper territory, adding a side-order of atmos and cut-up vocal snippets for those late night moments.
